    • The more someone does not want to look for the actual truth, the more they tend to seek an out-of-court settlement
    • Is the apology they’re giving supposed to be directed at Yamaguchi-san, or…?
    • If they had taken matters all the way to a court verdict, the verdict papers would have inevitably been made publicly accessible, and for that reason whatever is released to the outside wouldn’t count as defamation
    • But if it’s all to seal the mouths of the opposing side, then a settlement would do it. That’s actually the key point here.
    • “If you ever try to reveal to the outside the truth about the incident and the course of this trial, you shall pay me 10 million yen!” That’s an iron-fisted way of silencing someone
    • And it’s with this iron-fisted way of silencing them that they are stipulating their settlement
    • So it makes me wonder, isn’t (the letter of apologies) a text that actually reflects the wishes of AKS? Because I think that, in reality, there was otherwise no actual necessity to put [those words] into it.
