I have a lot I want to say about NGT48 and the ongoing drama surrounding the bullying and assault of former member Yamaguchi Maho, but I’ll leave that for another post.

At the end of April, I started to translate some of the daily posts from a Japanese matome site that was collecting news relevant to the Maho case. A user on Stage48 had been posting these somewhat regularly in the Assault Case thread, and I really appreciated seeing what was going on, and getting that Japanese netizen/news perspective that is often hard to appreciate from outside Japan. When they stopped, I still wanted to read the summaries, and decided that I could at least do better than Google translate. Since I was translating it for myself anyway, I figured I’d keep posting them to Stage48, too.

So here we are a couple months later, and it turns out that daily translations are actually a pretty good exercise for learning Japanese, in addition to keeping up on the latest gossip. Inevitably the big news items are becoming more sparse, and with Maho, Rena, and Riko graduated, their daily goings on are comforting, but less relevant to NGT as a whole. Until I can figure out if, and how, I would break these up into forum-thread relevant chunks (that’s already starting to sound like a second job), I’ll just start putting the summaries here.
