More Little Glee Monster! So 好きだ。 (suki da. / Love You.) is another one of the early J-pop songs I remember coming across, the first LGM song I found, and still one of my favorites. I’m not sure, but it seems like it’s also one of their most iconic and popular songs.
It’s from 2015, back when they still had six members (Maju left in 2017), and they’re all upbeat energy in the song and in the MV. Speaking of, the MV is neat for being shot no-cut, for having all the lyrics embedded in the scenes, and adding in a nice a capella/acoustic guitar section in the middle.
It’s from this beginning that I was drawn to the deep power of Manaka and Karen’s voices, as well as Serina’s overall solid talent, an assessment that I think still holds up well in their current work.
So this translation actually surprised me. Being one of the early Japanese songs I picked up, I didn’t really think to hard about the lyrics — after all, it seemed pretty clear this was one of those head-over-heels love songs. In truth it is that, but it actually has a bit of a darker tone than I expected. It’s less, “I just wanna tell you I love you” and more of a, “I love you despite this harsh world” kind of vibe.
Nothing too exciting font-wise, just wanted something legible to go with the hand-written style of the backgrounds, so it’s UD Digi Kyokasho NK-R throughout.
