Sometimes you just want a bouncy idol song, and the AKB songs with a younger member senbatsu usually deliver. So I’ll probably translate a few of the recent ones here, starting with 最強ツインテール (saikyou TSUINTEIRU / Mightiest Twintails) from AKB48’s NO WAY MAN Type-D. The lineup here is the top 16-year-old and under members from across the 48 Group.
Twintail fashion seems to be more emphasized in Japan, so it’s not something I really thought about before starting to follow idols. At the beginning I was wondering why people are always requesting the members try out twintails on livestreams, but I’ll admit it is cute.
This one has a catchy beat, fun costumes, good use of props, and some nice synchro choreography — really pretty great all around. It does a lot with a single studio space, and having the members run around and take selfies fits in really well (though also makes you instantly appreciate the difference between phone and cinema cameras, even at 480i).
Just a little time since its release has proven the front three (Yahagi Moeka, Yamamoto Ayaka, and Ishida Chiho) to be a true power trio. This MV definitely works for Moeka, though there are plenty of members here to like, and I wish Kadowaki Miyuna and Kubo Satone got more time. Miyumiyu’s dance is just great, and I think the song really fits Kubo.
